Avakin Life is one of those virtual worlds where the tagline “live without limits” feels almost accurate, until you try decorating a penthouse on a budget.

The game drops you into a polished social sim that’s part fashion runway, part lifestyle roleplay, and part community hangout. You start by building your avatar from scratch, tweaking everything from face shape to walk animations. Want to strut like a model or drag yourself around like a zombie? Go for it. There’s a wild amount of personalization on offer, especially in the wardrobe department. With over 30,000 fashion items, weekly drops, and full-body accessories like angel wings and punk chokers, self-expression is at the heart of everything.

That said, what you wear can end up meaning more than who you are. Much like other social hangouts (MoviestarPlanet, Line Play, etc.), there’s an unspoken hierarchy. New players often get side-eyed by glammed-up veterans, and “looking rich” isn’t just style, it’s status. There’s some depth here, but it’s not always pretty.

Housing is another major draw. You can own anything from a tropical villa to a gothic lair and decorate it with themed furniture collections. Hosting parties is fun, sure, but buying that perfect velvet couch might mean grinding daily jobs for hours or getting tempted by overpriced in-app purchases. It doesn’t help that the best items often sit behind a paywall (hello, Crown system), turning creative freedom into a premium feature.

The social systems are robust, tons of places to hang out, dance floors to conquer, contests to win, and weekly events. But when your friends are offline? There’s not much left to do. A few interactive objects or solo mini-games would go a long way.

Avakin Life has serious potential. It nails the vibe of an interactive Sims-style universe, and there’s something deeply satisfying about building your aesthetic, meeting people, and roleplaying entire lives. But between the FOMO-fueled monetization and lack of depth for solo players, it feels like a beautiful playground missing the final pieces of the puzzle.

Still, if you’re the creative type who loves dressing up, making friends, and showing off your space, this one’s worth logging into. Just maybe don’t get too attached.
