This slick 2D action roguelike lets go of franchise baggage in favor of laser-focused, chaos-driven brawling where every punch, slash, and screen-shattering combo feels like an exorcism of your inner button-masher.

The premise? Nonsense. You’re a tiny robot in a cyberpunk apocalypse running fighters through VR mind simulations to delay the collapse of reality. The story’s barely coherent, but who cares when you’re chaining together a gravity-defying flurry of attacks with Noel, then swapping mid-air to Hakumen for a meaty counterstrike that sends enemies flying off-screen like ragdolls.

Entropy Effect’s real magic lies in its ever-mutating combat loop. Each run is a playground of buildcraft, where you graft elemental modifiers, unlock combo branches, and stack passive buffs like you’re duct-taping a jet engine to a bicycle. It works, gloriously so. You’ll start slow, die fast, and then slowly begin stringing together sequences so elaborate they look choreographed by the ghost of John Woo.

Each of the 14 playable “Evotypes” feels distinct, even if they don’t fully mirror their fighting game counterparts. The animations are fluid, the hits hit, and the visual effects explode off the screen in a neon fever dream. Whether you’re grinding out buffs in the roguelike “Training” runs or diving into the sprawling semi-Metroidvania “Omega” mode, the action never stops mutating, and that’s the point.
