Description
Township blends farming, city-building, and match-3 puzzles into one surprisingly smooth loop. It starts simple, “Hey, you’ve inherited some land!”, but quickly evolves into a sprawling, semi-idle empire of cows, cotton, and candy factories.
You’ll plant wheat, harvest tomatoes, and build everything from bakeries to movie theaters. Every resource feeds into another system. Milk from cows becomes cheese. Cheese fuels your pizza shop. And pizzas? They’re great for completing orders, progressing quests, or feeding your zoo animals. Yes, there’s a zoo.
The game thrives on steady progress. At first, you’ll be growing crops in minutes. Later? Expect some timers to stretch into hours. You can wait, or you can pay. There’s no aggressive paywall, but Township isn’t shy about its monetization. $3 to speed up construction here, $7.99 for a starter bundle there. Still, you can play for free just fine, it’s all about how patient you are.
What I liked most was the freedom to design your town your way. You want a cozy rural village? Done. A modern industrial mini-metropolis? That works too. Decorations are purely aesthetic, but they help shape your town’s vibe. And it’s nice seeing the townsfolk wander around, from farmers to firefighters, small animations that make the place feel alive.
There’s also a match-3 puzzle mode tucked inside, mostly for earning extra coins and power-ups. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a decent distraction when you need a break from all the planning.
The biggest downside? After a few days, the game’s rhythm becomes very clear: turn time into resources, trade those for other resources, rinse, repeat. The depth comes more from scaling and optimization than narrative or novelty. Some players love that. Others may eventually feel like they’re managing a cheerful spreadsheet with goats.
That said, Township nails what it sets out to do. It’s beautiful, fluid, and easy to pick up. You can play offline, join co-op regattas, and progress at your own pace. For fans of slow-burn, semi-passive sims with lots of systems to tinker with, Township is a cozy place to settle in. Just make sure your phone’s charged, this game is surprisingly hard to put down.
