Vampire’s Fall: Origins

Vampire’s Fall: Origins is one of those games that feels like it clawed its way out of a crypt filled with dusty inspirations, Diablo, Blood Omen, Legacy of Kain, then slipped on a mobile UI and stumbled into your Steam library. It’s grim, moody, and absolutely drenched in ambition. But for every blood-soaked battle that clicks, there’s a reminder that this game still carries the curse of its mobile origins.

You start as a militia grunt, but it doesn’t take long before undeath grabs you by the throat. From there, you embrace vampirism, learning to bite, bleed, and bash your way through a sprawling open world. The combat is turn-based and surprisingly satisfying. Enemies hit hard, require thought, and throw just enough curveballs to make every fight feel tense. Focus Points let you chain together devastating combos, and vampire powers, like Bite or Shadowform, give just enough depth to make experimentation fun.

But let’s not sugarcoat it: quest tracking is a mess, performance stutters, and difficulty spikes feel more like leftovers from its freemium past than meaningful design. One minute you’re slapping rats; the next, a level 50 werewolf explodes you for daring to explore a dirt path.

The gear system is deeper than it looks, and dialogue choices offer some flavorful moral forks. Still, the writing never quite commits to its world. There’s weight behind your bloodline and choices… but not enough to keep the story from dragging like a coffin through mud.

There’s a damn good game hiding here. Just expect to dig for it.
