Inkvasion drops you into a world where strategy isn’t just encouraged, it’s absolutely non-negotiable. Equal parts town-builder, tower defense game, and real-time strategy sim, this blocky little battler lures you in with charming visuals and then quickly asks: Can you juggle a dozen decisions at once while monsters spill out of three directions and your economy implodes?

Every mission starts slow, plop down a farm, slap a few houses together, wrangle some ink. But by nightfall, the vibe shifts from chill to oh-no-I’m-under-siege. That’s when the waves hit. Inky abominations surge from every angle, and suddenly your adorable village is a war zone. If you didn’t place your units or buildings just right? Well, that’s on you.

Core to the experience is deck-building: you pick five unit cards before each level. Some units buff others, some have quirky tricks, and a few are just straight-up tanks. It’s not flashy, but mixing troop synergies with smart placement feels rewarding, especially when your underdog army holds the line by the slimmest margin.

What sets Inkvasion apart is its brainy, base-layer decision-making. You’re constantly forced to choose: upgrade a unit, or expand the base? Spend ink on more troops, or hold for repairs? The resource tension is real, and when it works, it really works.

Unfortunately, the blocky charm can only paper over so much. Repetitive levels, flat environments, and a grindy chest system (that slow drip of duplicates…) bog things down, especially after a few hours. There’s multiplayer and co-op, but it mostly feels like a detour to farm cards, not a reinvention of the wheel.

Still, there’s a great foundation here. Inkvasion doesn’t revolutionize the genre, but it doesn’t need to, its clever tactical depth and distinct aesthetic earn it a spot in the strategy lineup. Just don’t expect fireworks, at least, not yet.

For now, it’s a quietly compelling strategy gem where the ink flows thick, and so do the decisions.
