There are camera apps that try to be professional, and then there’s Varlens, an all-in-one mobile photography beast that feels like someone crammed a Leica, a film lab, and a colorist’s grading bay into your iPhone, then handed you the keys.

From the jump, Varlens comes out swinging. You get five core shooting modes, Auto, Manual, Program, Time-lapse, and Light Trail, but the real magic hides in the Manual mode. This is the kind of app that doesn’t just slap a filter on your photo, it makes it feel like it was developed.

And it doesn’t stop at presets. Varlens lets you import your own LUTs (.cube or .3dl), tweak HSL+ values more intuitively than Lightroom, and even slap on vintage frames with EXIF data for full “printed-in-1979” energy. Want to adjust curves, grain, or split tones without mangling your original file? No problem, Varlens edits non-destructively, like any self-respecting digital darkroom should.

For video? Oh yeah, it’s here too. Real-time filters. ProRes. Dolby Vision. Slow-mo up to 120fps. Even anamorphic letterboxing if you want to fake that big-screen look. You can pause and resume recording like a pro, and stereo mics keep your audio as sharp as your visuals.

The UI’s a little dense at first, but once you wrap your head around the layout, it clicks. Newbies can stick with Auto and still get gallery-worthy results. Pros can fine-tune shadows until they cry. And everyone in between? They’ll be too busy grinning at how damn good their shots look.

Varlens doesn’t just make your phone a better camera, it makes you a better photographer. Just don’t be surprised if you start sneering at the stock Camera app like it’s wearing Crocs at a wedding.
